TORONTO (AP) Red Sox catcher Ryan Hanigan has been activated off the 60-day disabled list and is in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.
Right-hander Jonathan Aro was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for Hanigan, who will bat ninth against Toronto left-hander Matt Boyd.
Hanigan suffered a broken bone in his right hand during a May 1 game at Fenway Park when he was hit by a pitch that ricocheted off the wrist of New York Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira.
Hanigan, who is batting .222 with one homer and five RBIs, has since adjusted his catching stance to better protect his exposed hand.
Aro had no record in three appearances with the Red Sox, allowing six runs in 4 2-3 innings.
