Reports: Tigers expected to sign former Rangers pitcher Neftali Feliz
The Detroit Tigers are expected to sign free agent pitcher Neftali Feliz, who was recently released by the Texas Rangers, according to multiple reports.
MLB Network's Pedro Martinez reported the news on-air Friday, which was confirmed by CBS Sports's Jon Heyman.
Feliz refused a minor-league stay with Texas after being designated for assignment by Texas on July 3 to make room for lefthander Matt Harrison on the active roster. After clearing waivers, Feliz became a free agent on Friday. He lost his job as Rangers closer after blowing three of nine save opportunities this season.
Heyman noted that if the Tigers sign Feliz, Detroit will have the last three Texas closers under contract, including Joakim Soria and Joe Nathan.
The 27-year-old Feliz has a 4.58 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 19 2/3 innings pitched this season.
