The Tampa Bay Rays have placed outfielder Steven Souza Jr. on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left hand, the team announced on Saturday.

The fracture was sustained when Souza was hit by a pitch from Joe Kelly of the Boston Red Sox during Saturday's game.

This is Souza's second trip to the DL in the last month. He was placed on the 15-day DL with a right finger laceration on July 7 and was activated on July 21.

The Rays recalled outfielder Mikie Mahtook from Triple A to take Souza's place on the roster, after previously optioning Mahtook to the minors earlier in the day.

Souza, 26, is hitting .214 with 15 home runs, 34 RBIs and a .303 on-base percentage in 89 games this season.

CORCORAN: Angels' postseason hopes take hit

Tampa acquired Souza from the Washington Nationals last December in a three-team trade.

The Rays (51–54) play the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Sunday.
