Marlins place Christian Yelich on DL, call up Marcell Ozuna
The Miami Marlins have placed leftfielder Christian Yelich on the disabled list and called up centerfielder Marcell Ozuna, the team announced Saturday.
Yelich, who is out with a right knee contusion, has been placed on the 15-day DL retroactive to Aug. 10. The 2014 Gold Glove winner hurt his knee while attempting to rob a home run against the Braves.
Ozuna is being called up from Triple A New Orleans, where he was sent on July 5. In 79 games in the majors this season, Ozuna hit .249 with just four home runs. In 33 games for the Zephyrs, Ozuna hit .317 with five home runs.
Ozuna's success in the minors raised the eyebrows of his agent Scott Boras and those in the Marlins clubhouse, who think the Miami front office may have left Ozuna in the minors longer to delay his arbitration eligibility, according to a report from Miami Herald's Barry Jackson.
If Ozuna was called up before Aug. 8, he would have been arbitration eligible a season earlier. The Marlins denied Ozuna's demotion was financially motivated.
On Instagram, Ozuna described the call-up as being let out of jail:
Miami entered Saturday tied with the Philadelphia Phillies for the fewest wins in the majors.
