Wade Davis will be Royals’ closer through playoffs
Wade Davis will take over as the Kansas City Royals’ closer and hold the job through the playoffs, manager Ned Yost said Tuesday.
Davis will replace Greg Holland, who is being shut down for a few days with tightness in his elbow.
“You know what you have with Wade,” Yost told reporters. “With [Holland] you don’t know from one day to the next how his elbow is going to react.”
Holland has converted 32 of 37 save opportunities and posted a 3.83 ERA in 44 2/3 innings.
Davis moves over from the set-up role. He’s allowed just seven runs in 61 2/3 innings and saved 13 games.
In other news, second baseman Omar Infante will miss two to three weeks after an MRI revealed an oblique strain.
