Watch: Phillies’ Aaron Altherr hits inside-the-park grand slam

The last time a Phillies player hit an inside-the-park grand slam, they were playing the New York Giants at the Polo Grounds in 1956.

Outfielder Aaron Altherr hit an inside-the-park grand slam for the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night against the Washington Nationals.

The lined shot came off Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann in the top of the third inning with the Phillies trailing 1–0. Once the ball got past a diving Michael Taylor, Altherr rounded the diamond for his fourth home run of the season. He now has 15 RBIs since being recalled to on Aug. 18. 

The inside-the-park grand slam was the first in the majors since Randy Winn did it for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays against the New York Yankees on Oct. 3, 1999.

Altherr’s inside-the-park grand slam was the first in Phillies' history since Ted Kazanski hit one on Aug. 8, 1956 against the New York Giants at Polo Grounds according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
