Cardinals’ Yadier Molina (thumb) to miss remainder of regular season
St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina will miss the remainder of the regular season with a thumb injury, manager Mike Matheny told reporters.
Molina, 33, sustained a ligament tear in his left thumb on Sept. 20 against the Chicago Cubs while tagging out Anthony Rizzo as he attempted to score from third base on fly out to rightfield.
Matheny says Molina will rest and see a doctor again next week regarding the injury.
As the Cardinals’ starting catcher since 2005, Molina has been selected to seven consecutive All-Star teams. He is batting .270 with four home runs, 61 RBIs and a .660 OPS this season.
