A’s promote Billy Beane to VP of baseball operations, David Forst to GM
The Oakland A’s have promoted Billy Beane to Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and David Forst to General Manager, the team announced on Monday.
“Billy Beane and David Forst have continually proven themselves to be two of the best baseball minds in the game today,” said A’s Owner and Managing Partner Lew Wolff. “The team remains in great hands. We're very fortunate to have not one but two executives of their caliber.”
Beane was the team’s general manager starting after the 1997 season. During Beane’s 18 seasons as general manager, the A’s had a 1552-1362 (.533) record. Oakland won six American League West titles and earned two AL Wild Card spots (2001 and 2014) during the former player’s time as GM.
Forst recently completed his 12th year as the A’s assistant general manager and 16th with the organization. Before taking on the duties of assistant GM, Forst worked as the Assistant to the General Manager and Coordinator of Professional Scouting.
Oakland finished 68-94 this season and last place in the AL West.
