Dodgers rally to beat Mets 5–2, tie NLDS at 1–1
After a wild seventh-inning rally, the Dodgers pulled away and beat the Mets 5–2, tying the NLDS at 1–1.
Mets rookie starter Noah Syndergaard had been steady before running into trouble in the seventh, and was lifted for veteran Bartolo Colon. Colon entered the one-run game with men on the corners and one out, and coaxed a fielders’ choice up the middle out of Howie Kendrick. Kiké Hernandez scored from third on the play to tie the game at two.
On the same play, Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada was carted off the field after being taken out on a slide by Chase Utley. He was diagnosed with a fractured right fibula.
Colon was relieved by Addison Reed with men on first and second. After Corey Seager flied out, Adrian Gonzalez struck with a double to deep right, driving in two. Justin Turner followed with a double of his own, making it 5–2, a lead the Dodgers bullpen held for good.
Zack Greinke earned the win after seven strong innings, allowing five hits and two runs with eight strikeouts. Kenley Jansen entered in the ninth to convert the save for Los Angeles. Syndergaard took the loss, allowing five hits, four walks and three runs while striking out nine in 6 1/3 innings.
Yoenis Cespedes opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning off Greinke. That was followed by another solo shot by rookie Michael Conforto to make it 2–0. The two bombs marked the first timeGreinke had given up multiple homers in an inning since April 2014.
In Game 1, the Mets topped the Dodgers 3–1 behind a tremendous start from Jacob deGrom. The series heads to New York for Game 3 on Monday, when the Mets will send out starter Matt Harvey to face Brett Anderson.
