Minnesota Twins centerfielder and 17-year major league veteran Torii Hunterannounced his retirement on Thursday.

Hunter played with three major league teams during his career, including 10 seasons in Minnesota. He leaves the game as one of the most decorated outfielders in baseball history, earning nine gold gloves between 2001-2009. Ken Griffey Jr., Al Kaline and Ichiro Suzuki are tied for the most American League gold gloves for an outfielder with 10.

Hunter played in 129 games this season, hitting .240 with 22 home runs and 81 RBIs. Over 2,372 major league games, Hunter compiled a .277 batting average with 353 home runs and 2,452 hits.

Hunter was named an All-Star five times.

According to the Associated Press, Hunter doesn’t plan to stay away from the game for very long. Hunter says that he has already fielded offers from various networks to work as a television analyst. He also plans to sit down with Twins owner Jim Pohland about a role with the organization.

"I don't want to sit out too long. I want to get right back in it," Hunter said.

Royals will non-tender Greg Holland but are still interested in retaining him
