Ben Zobrist agrees to four-year deal with Chicago Cubs
Ben Zobrist has reached an agreement with the Chicago Cubs on a four-year deal, the team announced late on Tuesday.
The deal will be worth $56 million, according to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.
The Cubs would need to move an infielder in order to make room for Zobrist, and they’re in talks to send Starlin Castro to the Yankees, according to multiplereports.
Zobrist started last season with the Oakland Athletics and hit .266 with six home runs and 33 RBIs before being traded to the Kansas City Royals. He hit seven home runs with 23 RBIs as the Royals before the World Series run.
Late Tuesday afternoon, New York Mets general manager John Ricco told reporters that he was hopeful the 11-year veteran would decide to play in New York.
The Mets, along with the Giants and Nationals were also reported to be in Zobrist.
