ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Outfielder Daniel Nava and the Los Angeles Angels have agreed to a one-year contract for a $1,375,000 salary.

Nava's deal, announced Wednesday, is not guaranteed, meaning he can be released before opening day for only a fraction of the full salary. His deal includes the chance to earn $500,000 in performance bonuses.

Nava hit .152 in 29 games with Boston last season, was put on waivers and claimed by Tampa Bay. He hit .233 in 31 games with the Rays and became a free agent last month when he refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Durham.

A switch-hitter, he has a .265 career average with 24 homers in parts of five major league seasons spent mostly with Boston.

Nava could contend for a platoon role in left field for the Angels with Craig Gentry. The Angels have failed to land a star outfielder to start alongside Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun.

Nava can earn $50,000 each for 225, 275, 325 and 375 plate appearances, and $75,000 apiece for 425, 450, 500 and 500.

Los Angeles's biggest offseason move has been a trade to acquire third baseman Yunel Escobar.
