Cubs release infielder Brendan Ryan
Brendan Ryan was part of the trade that sent Starlin Castro to the New York Yankees.
The Chicago Cubs have released Brendan Ryan, the team announced.
Ryan and pitcher Adam Warren were acquired in a trade with the Yankees that sent Starlin Castro to New York earlier this off-season.
Ryan hit .229 with six doubles and two triples in 96 at-bats in 2015. He was sidelined for most of the season with a back injury, a calf strain and a pulled hamstring. He also suffered from heat exhaustion while rehabbing.

SInce breaking into the major leagues, Ryan has also played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Seattle Mariners.
The Cubs roster remains at 40 players, as the team also claimed left-handed reliever Edgar Olmos off waivers.
