The Chicago Cubs have released Brendan Ryan, the team announced.

Ryan and pitcher Adam Warren were acquired in a trade with the Yankees that sent Starlin Castro to New York earlier this off-season.

Ryan hit .229 with six doubles and two triples in 96 at-bats in 2015. He was sidelined for most of the season with a back injury, a calf strain and a pulled hamstring. He also suffered from heat exhaustion while rehabbing.
