Royals to host two World Series ceremonies to open season vs. Mets

The Royals will host two World Series ceremonies during their opening series of the 2016 season against the Mets.

The Kansas City Royals will host two World Series ceremonies during their opening series of the 2016 season against the New York Mets, reports ESPN’s Adam Rubin.

Kansas City, which will raise its championship banner ahead of the April 3 season opener against the Mets, changed the date of its ring ceremony to also take place in its opening series with New York.

“We decided to move the ring ceremony to the second game of the season so our entire fan base could feel like they are a part of it,” Royals senior vice president of business operations Kevin Uhlich said.

“While it’s great that ESPN has selected our season opener for their first primetime telecast, only our fans in attendance would have the opportunity to witness the entire ring ceremony. By moving the ceremony to Tuesday, our partners at FOX Sports Kansas City can carry the ring presentation in its entirety for all fans to see.”

The Royals defeated the Mets in five games in the 2015 World Series to capture their first title since 1985.
