Detroit Tigers first base coach Omar Vizquel will manage the Venezuelan national baseball team at the 2017 World Baseball Classic, reports Jon Morosi of FOX Sports.

Vizquel, 48, was the captain of the national team at the inaugural WBC in 2006. He last played in the major leagues in 2012 and has since served as a coach on Brad Ausmus's staff.

His 2,877 hits are the most by a player from Venezuela in the majors.

Luis Dorante and Luis Sojo served as Venezuela's managers for the 2013 WBC, where the team suffered a first-round exit. Venezuela won bronze in the 2009 WBC.

Venezuela has already qualified for the 2017 WBC.
