Chicago Cubs leftfielder Kyle Schwarber sprained his left ankle during Thursday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team announced.

During the second inning of Chicago’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Schwarber collided with centerfielder Dexter Fowler on a deep fly ball hit by Jean Segura, Fowler appearing to run into Schwarber’s left leg. Segura’s hit turned into an inside-the-park home run, giving Arizona a 4–2 lead.

Trainers attended to Schwarber for several minutes, eventually helping him up as he favored his left ankle. He was carted off the field for further examination. He is scheduled for an MRI on Friday. X-rays were negative.

Schwarber, 23, batted .246 with 16 home runs and 43 RBIs as a rookie last season and was a key contributor in Chicago’s playoff chase. After he exited the game, Kris Bryant moved to leftfield and Tommy La Stella entered at third base.
