The Seattle Mariners have placed shortstop Ketel Marte on the 15-day disabled list due to a sprained thumb, the team announced Sunday.
The 22-year-old suffered the injury in the fifth inning of Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds, jamming his left thumb while sliding into second base on a steal.
Infielder Chris Taylor has been recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to fill the roster spot.
Marte has played in 40 games so far this season, hitting .276 with a home run and 14 RBIs
