The Pittsburgh Pirates have called up top prospect Tyler Glasnow to start against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, the team announced.
To make room on the roster, Pittsburgh optioned Kyle Lobstein to Triple A.
Glasnow, 22, has posted a 1.78 ERA through 96 innings and is averaging 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings at the Triple-A level this season. The pitcher has also averaged 4.9 walks per nine innings, raising some issues about control.
The Pirates swept the Oakland Athletics in a three-game series before heading to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals. Pittsburgh came out on top in the first two games of the four-game series. Game three begins at 8:15 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
