Report: MLB reviewing Padres sharing of medical information in recent trades

MLB is reviewing the Padres release of medical information in two trades this season after concerns raised by Marlins and Red Sox.

Two recent trades by the Padres are under review by Major League Baseball after the Marlins and Red Sox claimed San Diego withheld vital medical information on players involved in the deals, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.

Miami sent pitcher Colin Rea back to the Padres after he was pulled in the fourth inning of his first start with the Marlins and on Friday it was announced that Rea would need to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a torn UCL.

Boston is concerned about a lack of information in the medical history of Drew Pomeranz, who they acquired in exchange for pitching prospect Anderson Espinoza in a deal last month, but the team is not seeking to have the deal altered at this time.

The report said MLB was unclear on whether San Diego could face any fines or other penalties. The review may lead to clearer rules about what must be included in the medical reports shared before trades are completed.
