Justin Upton entered Saturday batting just .100 (5 for 50) in August, but showed some life in the third of four games against Boston with a 2 for 4 showing. On Sunday, he exploded.

In a 10–5 win over the Red Sox, the Tigers outfielder hit a pair of towering three-run home runs off southpaw Henry Owens that totaled 880 feet. The longballs brought his season total to 15 and his average in August up to .210.

Now three games out of the wild card at 65–59, Detroit will need Upton to continue playing like this to make the postseason.
