Mets trade for Angels reliever Fernando Salas
The Mets have acquired Angels reliever Fernando Salas, the team announced Wednesday.
Salas, 31, had been serving as Angels closer with Huston Street and Cam Bedrosian out injured. Since the All-Star break, he has a 2.93 ERA. He has a 4.47 ERA on the season with six saves and 45 strikeouts in 56 1/3 innings.
New York sent minor league righthander Erik Manoah to L.A. in exchange, transferring Justin Ruggiano to the 60-day disabled list in a corresponding move.
Salas gives the Mets added bullpen depth for the stretch run
The Mets are 69–64 after beating the Marlins on Wednesday and sit second in the NL East. They are currently without several injured regulars, including pitchers Steven Matz and Matt Harvey, third baseman David Wright and first baseman Lucas Duda. Second baseman Neil Walker will miss the rest of the season and is likely to have back surgery.
