Marlins players will all wear No. 16 in honor of Jose Fernandez
Every member of the Marlins will wear No. 16 on Monday as a tribute to Jose Fernandez, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald.
The game will be Miami’s first since Fernandez was killed in a boat crash early Sunday morning. Sunday’s game against the Braves was canceled.
The pitcher’s mound at Marlins Park was turned into a memorial to Fernandez on Sunday, with his number drawn on the back of the mound and his hat resting on the rubber.
Several teams hung a Fernandez No. 16 jersey in their dugouts on Sunday and many players drew tributes to Fernandez on their equipment.

Fernandez was killed when a boat he was traveling in crashed into a rock jetty. All three men on board were killed in the crash. Authorities have yet to release the identities of the other two men, but they are believed to have been friends of Fernandez’s.
