The Chicago Cubs have reached a five-year contract extension with general manager Jed Hoyer and senior vice president of scouting/player development Jason McLeod, the team announced.

The Cubs signed Theo Epstein to a five-year contract extension to remain at the helm of the team's baseball operations. Hoyer and Epstein worked together with the Boston Red Sox for nine years and won the 2004 and 2007 World Series titles.

“Jed and Jason are simply the best at what they do and have played fundamentally important leadership roles in helping the Cubs build a healthy and thriving organization,” Epstein said in a statement. “We feel honored to have the stability and support that we enjoy throughout Baseball Operations and look forward to many years of working together in Chicago.”

Chicago has the best record in baseball with 101 wins and clinched a playoff berth as the National League Central Division champions. The Cubs are looking to win their first World Since since 1908.

Before arriving in Chicago, Hoyer, 42, spent time as the San Diego Padres general manager.
