The Rockies and Diamondbacks face off in a NL West showdown Wednesday night, vying to keep October ball alive in the NL Wild Card game in Phoenix.
Aces Jon Gray (10-4) and Zach Greinke (17-7) will take the mound for the Rockies and the Diamondbacks, respectively. Gray has a 3.67 ERA with 112 strikeouts, while Greinke has a 3.20 ERA with 215 strikeouts. Gray has faced the Diamondbacks three times this season and is 2-1 against them. The Rockies earned their first postseason berth since 2009 this year finishing third in the competitive NL West at 87-75. With star Nolan Arenado leading both at bat and on the field, plus a strong rotation, Colorado has had an up-and-down summer after starting the season strong.
The Diamondbacks have been competing with the Rockies all year for second place in the NL West after the Los Angeles Dodgers sealed up first early. Arizona finished at 93-69.
The two teams split the last four-game series against each other in mid-September.
The winner of this game will play the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS, starting Friday.
