Giancarlo Stanton Injury Update: 'Time Is Not on My Side Right Now'
Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is not in the starting lineup of Game 3 of the American League Championship Series against the Astros as he battles a right quad strain.
Stanton suffered the injury during Game 1 while running out a single in the second inning. He went on to hit a home run in the sixth during the Yankees' 7–0 win before the club realized after the game he was injured.
Stanton struggled with injuries throughout the regular season, where he was restricted to only 18 games due to biceps, shoulder, calf and knee injuries. He missed Game 2 of the ALCS and his ability to play more in the series remains unknown.
"It's not the best, but I'm able to hit," Stanton told reporters on Tuesday. "We're at least that far right now. I don't have much time. Time isn't on my side right now. I'm doing what I can.
"Outfield is the biggest question. Those are the same steps as on the baselines. That's going to be the biggest hurdle right now. ...I can hit. I've got to move around more and see what I've got."
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Stanton's quad strain would be "significant enough to require an [injured list] stint" if it were the regular season.
Boone added Stanton is available off the bench for Game 3, and the outfielder took batting practice at Yankee Stadium ahead of the contest.
New York hosts the Astros on Tuesday for Game 3 at 4:08 p.m. ET. The series is tied 1–1.
