Braves catcher Travis d’Arnaud was removed from Saturday’s game against the Padres following a scary collision with Rougned Odor at home plate.

d’Arnaud, who thought he had the ball in his glove, attempted to place a tag on Odor at the plate during Saturday’s game. A big collision ensued, resulting in the veteran backstop exiting the contest.

Speaking to reporters after the game, manager Brian Snitker indicated the 34-year-old is most likely headed to the 7-day concussion IL following the collision with Odor.

“I’m sure he’s gonna go on that 7-day concussion IL,” said Snitker of d’Arnaud, via Bally Sports. “I just know I went down in the tunnel and the doctor was looking at him. It was pretty apparent we were going to have to take him out.”

On the play in question, Odor ended up being ruled out after it was determined he did not touch home plate before Ha-Seong Kim, who had scored after first baseman Matt Olson’s throw sailed past d’Arnaud.

d’Arnaud managed to stay in the game until the sixth inning, at which point he was replaced by Sean Murphy.

The veteran backstop has sustained multiple concussions throughout his career, something which was addressed by Snitker during his postgame press conference.

“He’s had a few of them,” said Snitker of d’Arnaud and concussions. “That’s nothing to mess around with, at all, when your brain gets hit like that.”

d’Arnaud had been off to a strong start to the season, with 11 hits and five RBIs in his first seven games.
