Matt Bush, the No. 1 pick in the 2004 Major League Baseball draft, was designated for assignment by the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.

Bush has struggled mightily for the Brewers since being acquired last August from the Texas Rangers in exchange for Antoine Kelly and Mark Mathias. The hard throwing right-hander, who has battled arm issues this season, owns a dismal 0-2 record with a 9.58 ERA and 1.65 WHIP over 10 1/3 innings.

In Friday’s 8-7 loss to the Pirates, Bush suffered his third blown save of the season after surrendering three earned runs in the the ninth inning.

Bush, who was solid as a member of the Rangers last season, posting a 2-1 record with 2.95 ERA over 36 2/3 innings, struggled immediately following the trade by allowing 15 runs in 23 innings with the Brewers in the final months of the ’22 season.

Overall, the veteran compiled a disappointing 0-4 record with a 5.94 ERA and three saves in 37 appearances with Milwaukee.

In corresponding moves, the Brewers recalled right-hander J.B. Bukauskas and left-hander Clayton Andrews from Triple A Nashville as the club looks to improve its bullpen.
