Phillies’ Michael Lorenzen Throws No-Hitter vs. Nationals

The pitcher achieved the feat in his second start with Philadelphia.

In just his second start as a member of the Phillies, pitcher Michael Lorenzen threw the franchise’s 14th no-hitter on Wednesday night.

Lorenzen recorded his first career complete game with 124 pitches, four walks and five strikeouts in a 7-0 win over the visiting Nationals. The feat coincided with Lorenzen’s first start at Citizens Bank Park for the Phillies. It was the first no-hitter for the Phillies since 2015.

The game ended when Nationals first baseman Dominic Smith flied out to center field. The celebration commenced on the field as Lorenzen was overcome with joy. The television broadcast cut to Lorenzen’s family in the crowd as they were celebrating and shedding tears.

The 31-year-old made his Phillies debut last Thursday after being acquired from the Tigers in a trade for minor league infielder Hao-Yu Lee. In that start against the Marlins, Lorenzen pitched eight innings to earn the victory, allowing six hits and two runs.
