The Angels hoped to turn the corner after the All-Star break and make a push to the 2023 MLB Playoffs. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, and they entered Sunday, Sept. 10 a whopping 13.5 games back in the AL Wild Card race.

With big decisions on the horizon this offseason, it appears the team is open to doing something that would certainly shake the MLB landscape in a big way — trading Mike Trout.

As USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported, Los Angeles is now “open to trading All-Star outfielder Trout if he indicates to them that he wants out.”

It’s worth noting that as Nightengale detailed, Trout has exclusive no-trade rights. He also cited that 32-year-old said recently he wants to have a “private conversation” with the higher-ups in the organization about the team’s direction.

If the two parties do decide to look at a potential trade, it would lead to an interesting situation, as Trout is owed north of $248 million over the next seven seasons. He will also have missed 249 games over the past three seasons, if he’s unable to return to the field in 2023.
