Rangers ace Max Scherzer exited Tuesday’s game in the sixth inning against the Blue Jays due to an apparent injury.

Scherzer threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings before he was forced to leave the mound following a sequence in the middle of the sixth inning. He threw 73 pitches, allowing just three hits while striking out two.

Shortly after Scherzer left the game, the Rangers announced that Scherzer was dealing with a right triceps spasm, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

José Leclerc relieved Scherzer with the Rangers leading 3–0.

The Rangers, who headed into Tuesday night on a three-game winning streak, can not afford to lose their ace as the club heads into the four-game series with Texas trailing the Blue Jays by a 1/2 game in the AL Wild Card standings.

The veteran righty, who is 12–6 with a 3.77 ERA on the season, owns a 3–2 record with 3.20 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP in eight starts for Texas, since being acquired from the Mets back on July 30.

Upon the announcement that it only appears to be spasms, Texas will be hoping their ace will make his next scheduled start on Sunday on the road at Cleveland.
