Astros pitcher Bryan Abreu’s two-game suspension will be upheld, an arbiter decided on Monday. But he won’t be subjected to serve it until the start of the 2024 season.

This news means that Abreu will be available to pitch on Monday night in Game 7 of the ALCS vs. the Rangers. The series is tied at three games apiece, and the winner of Monday night’s game will book a trip to the World Series.

Abreu immediately appealed the suspension, but it was expected that he would begin serving it Monday night for Game 7. So this news is a revelation for Houston fans.

Abreu was given the suspension after MLB officials ruled that the pitcher intentionally hit Rangers outfielder Adolis García during Game 5 of the ALCS. The pitch caused quite the reaction from both benches as they cleared onto the field.

In the aftermath, Abreu, García, and Astros manager Dusty Baker were all ejected from the game in the sixth inning.
