Giants Appear to Troll Rival Dodgers With Disney-Related Fan Giveaway
It's one of baseball's most durable trends: generally, whenever the Los Angeles Dodgers are doing something of note, the San Francisco Giants will be pestering them in some form or fashion.
The Brooklyn Dodgers were one of the best teams in baseball for almost 20 years in the 1940s and 1950s—but the Shot Heard 'Round the World in 1951 is the moment that became the stuff of legend. When Los Angeles won 106 games in 2021, it had to overcome the 107-55 Giants in a five-game NLDS to advance.
In 2024, San Francisco may not have the roster to compete with a star-laden Dodgers team, but the Giants appear to have found a way to stick themselves in Los Angeles's craw regardless.
San Francisco will give away Mickey Mouse ears to the first 15,000 fans in attendance when it plays the Dodgers on June 30, according to the team's promotional calendar.
The giveaway is part of a collaboration with Disneyland, but it is hard not to notice its timing. Los Angeles's 2020 World Series title being a "Mickey Mouse" ring is a recurring trope among baseball fans on social media.
Whether aimed at the Dodgers or not, the promotion is sure to enliven one of baseball's best rivalries during the dog days of summer.
