Mets Broadcaster Was So Fed Up During Rain Delay, and Fans Loved It
Gary Cohen, the television voice of the New York Mets since 2006, reached his limit Tuesday night.
The second game of a series between the Mets and Detroit Tigers, scheduled to begin at 7:10 p.m. ET Tuesday, was put on hold due to a lengthy and rather soggy rain delay at Citi Field. Mets officials initially believed there would be a window with no precipitation between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET to squeeze a game in, but that never arrived.
The SNY broadcast team—featuring Cohen, analyst Keith Hernandez and others—was tasked with keeping fans updated during the long delay.
"We'll be here when the game starts," Cohen said. "Until then, get the snacks that you can and try to keep nourished."
Cohen then unleashed a hilarious eye roll as the broadcast cut away from the booth. The moment quickly went viral on social media.
The game was officially postponed after 9 p.m. ET.
The opening week of the 2024 MLB season hasn't been smooth sailing for the Mets. They were swept in three games by the Milwaukee Brewers to open the new campaign last week, and they lost 5–0 to the Tigers on Monday in extra innings.
Mets and baseball fans alike seemed to enjoy the candid moment from Cohen:
The Mets and Tigers will return to the field Wednesday to continue their three-game series at Citi Field. They will make up Tuesday's postponed contest on Thursday at 1:10 p.m. ET.
