Every MLB fan has heard of a rain delay, but what about a solar eclipse delay?

That's effectively what has come to fruition regarding the start time of Monday's game between the New York Yankees and Miami Marlins at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees on Thursday announced that the start of Monday's game, originally scheduled for 2:05 p.m. ET, will be pushed back to 6:05 p.m. ET.

"After discussions with Major League Baseball, the scheduled start time of the Yankees-Marlins game on Monday, April 8 at Yankee Stadium has been changed from 2:05 p.m. to 6:05 p.m. All Yankee Stadium gates will open to Guests with valid tickets beginning at 3:00 p.m. The first 15,000 Guests in attendance will receive a Yankees Solar Eclipse T-Shirt presented by HubSpot."

A total solar eclipse, which is when the moon travels between the Earth and the sun, obscuring the view of the sun from Earth, will occur on Monday. It's the first total solar eclipse since 2017, though the Bronx, as well as other parts of New York, are only expected to see a partial eclipse.

Experts recommend that viewers only look at the sun using specialized solar eclipse glasses to avoid eye damage. Obviously, attempting to play a baseball game, which involves both players and fans constantly gazing skyward, could pose some serious health risks.

Kudos to MLB and both clubs for recognizing this.
