Just As Texas Rangers Were Getting Healthy, Corey Seager In Doubt After Pitch Nails His Shin
ARLINGTON — The Texas Rangers can't catch a break.
Even when they're winning, the Rangers are dealing with another injury to another key player.
In their 5-1 win over the Seattle Mariners, slugger Corey Seager was hit on his left shin by a pitch in the seventh inning Wednesday. He left the game before the eighth inning.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said there was significant swelling and that Seager's injury will be reevaluated Thursday morning.
The Rangers host the Mariners in the series finale at 1:35 p.m. at Globe Life Field. It's very likely Seager won't be in the lineup.
His last day off was April 15 in Detroit. Bochy has tried to ease Seager into the season with a day off each week after Seager missed most of spring training after having hernia surgery on Jan. 30.
Ezekiel Duran is likely to be starting at shortstop for Seager against Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo (1-4, 4.40 ERA). Left-hander Andrew Heaney (0-2, 6.35) starts for the Rangers (13-12), who pulled a half-game ahead of the Mariners (12-12) atop the American League West Division with Wednesday's win.
Seager is batting .256 with a home run and six RBI. He has only one RBI in his past 15 games.
Texas has been beset with a series of injuries early in the season, including their All-Star third baseman Josh Jung, who is out until June with a broken wrist, and Gold Glove first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, who missed the first three weeks of the season. Multiple pitchers have been or are still on the injured list, including Max Scherzer, Josh Sborz, Tyler Mahle, and Jacob deGrom.
