The Los Angeles Angels continued their busy offseason on Thursday, signing a veteran infielder coming off a breakout season in the National League.

To make room for him on the active roster, the team surprisingly designated a key contributor and former first-round pick for assignment.

The Angels were expected to look to trade him, but instead designated him for assignment, ending his time with the Angels for now unless he clears waivers and the team sends him to Triple-A.
