Angels Agree to Deal With Veteran Outfielder Aaron Hicks
The Los Angeles Angels have signed outfielder Aaron Hicks to a deal. Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register was the one to announce the agreement between the two sides.
Fletcher also noted that it is a major-league deal, so Hicks will be added to the 40-man roster when the deal is official.
Hicks now joins the Angels outfield and gives them more depth at the position. He spent the first few months of 2023 with the New York Yankees before he joined the Baltimore Orioles on a one-year deal.
The Yankees are still paying Hicks after their extension with him through 2025, so the Angels are only paying him the prorated league minimum for any time he spends on the roster. This is a great signing for the Halos at that price, and Hicks brings plenty of experience with him to the team.
Hicks played in 28 games with New York last season, hitting just .188 with one home run and five runs batted in. The Yankees couldn't afford his lack of offense any longer, so they released him.
He appeared in 65 games for Baltimore, where his numbers jumped back up. Hicks hit .275 with seven home runs and 31 runs batted in while helping the young Orioles clinch the AL East.
This signing is another solid one from the Halos front office, and it reflects their want to bring in more talent across the roster. Adding a veteran like Hicks should provide more leadership in the clubhouse.
If Hicks can perform like he did in Baltimore, this will be a steal for the Angels. If anything, it's a low risk for the team but a potentially high reward if it works out.
