Angels Expert Believes Franchise Failed This Former Star Prospect
The Los Angeles Angels have been one of the more controversial franchises within the MLB in recent history and that has been for a multitude of reasons. Majority of teams are usually defined by their success as a group, star power, and history. However, people tend to forget that it all starts with the owner.
Angels fans need no introduction to Arte Moreno. Despite still holding his owner title, they were mighty close to waving him goodbye last season when he apparently was all-in on selling the team. The Halos have not made the playoffs since 2014 despite housing one of the greatest players ever in Mike Trout. Moreno and the rest of the front office failed to surround him with talent to win games and prior to cold feet, the 76-year-old was ready to walk away.
And majority of baseball fans know that outside of his own injuries, Trout has been failed by the franchise. Nine silver slugger awards and four MVP's should've led to far more than just one playoff appearance. However, a certain Angels expert believes that Jo Adell is up there with Trout when it comes to talent not maximized by LA.
"It was easy to see why the Angels were so enamored with Adell. His combination of power and speed was and still is something to behold. The problem with Adell was he just wasn't ready."
"Adell swung the bat well in the minors, but had very obvious flaws with his approach at the plate which were exposed at the MLB level. Just look at his 2019 season in the minors. Adell had an .834 OPS which is a solid number, but he struck out 94 times in 76 games. Doing that in the minors suggests real issues."
"The tools not translating isn't for a lack of a chance. Thaiss was moved around and blocked. He never really got a fair shot outside of the 2019 season. Adell on the other hand has been given chances and done nothing with them."

It is clear that Adell shines whenever he is in the minor leagues and LA got a little too excited seeing his production at such a young age.
Even in this season, he is already off to a very hot start and has been seeing some great success at the plate. The difference is that he is now 24-years-old and has gotten the chance to really season and get a sense of consistency.
Just like Zachary Rodman of Halo Hangout mentioned, I still think Adell is a tremendous talent and at some point in 2023, we could very well catch him back in the big league roster and he'll be much more prepared this time.
