Washington, 71, has plenty of experience under his belt as a former MLB player, coach and manager over the last 46 years.
During his playing career, he spent the majority of his time playing for the Minnesota Twins from 1981-1986.
As a coach, Washington currently serves as the Atlanta Braves third base coach for the last six years and also worked as a coach for the Oakland Athletics from 1996-2006 and again from 2015-2016.
In 2007, Washington left Oakland to become the manager of the Texas Rangers from 2007-2014. During that time, he held a career record of 664-611 and made three postseason appearances while winning the American League pennant twice in 2010 and 2011.
Before serving as the Braves third base coach, Washington was a finalist for the manager position in Atlanta until they elected to go with Brian Snitker who served as the interim manager in 2016.
Coming into this offseason, Washington has been regarded as a top manager candidate for multiple teams due to the success of the Braves since his arrival as they have reached the postseason five out the six years he's been with the team.
While it is unsure who will be managing the Angels next season, the opportunity to hire someone like Washington could be just what the Angels need as they have yet to reach the postseason over the last nine years.
If the Angels indeed sign Washington, it should come as no surprise as he worked with GM Perry Minasian from 2018-2020 as he was the Braves top scout and assistant GM.
Aside from Mike Trout, the Angels are a young promising team that features up-and-coming players like Mickey Moniak, Zack Neto, Logan O'Hoppe, and Noah Schanuel.
Given Washington's experience over the years, the opportunity for the Angels to sign him should be one that could pay off in the long run as he could be the perfect candidate to lead this team back to the postseason for the first time since 2014.
