The Los Angeles Angels have had a whirlwind of a week since former two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani announced that he would be signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers. They've dealt with backlash from the fanbase, and the front office has started to look at ways to move forward.

All the Angels will receive for losing Ohtani is a compensation pick, which is nice, but not enough for the best player in the league. However, the team did have a chance to trade him at the trade deadline this season, but declined to do so.

Angels general manager Perry Minasian spoke candidly about Ohtani leaving the team. But he said that he didn't regret them not moving him at the trade deadline this past season.

“We were playing really good baseball,” Minasian said. “We definitely had a chance to compete the rest of the way. It didn’t work out. There’s zero regrets. We felt like we had a really good team. It just didn’t work. From an injury standpoint, we didn’t have guys return that we thought we would. We didn’t perform like we thought we would. With that being said, we took a chance on trying to win and I have no regrets.”

To the Halos' credit, they were trying to make a push toward the postseason. They doubled down by making some trades, but it didn't pan out.

It was always expected that Ohtani would leave the Angels organization this winter, but they must have felt differently. And it has been reported that Ohtani's camp gave the Angels a chance to match the offer he signed with the Dodgers.

This type of disorganization from the team is just another example of the issues that they've seen over the years. They have been stuck in mediocrity for a decade now, and until they alter their ways, nothing will change.
