Angels GM Perry Minasian Expects Anthony Rendon to Be Everyday Third Baseman
When the Los Angeles Angels signed third baseman Anthony Rendon to a seven-year $245 million contract, they expected to have one of the top players at the hot corner. Unfortunately, through the first half of that contract, that has not been the case.
In four years since signing that deal, Rendon has only played in 200 games with the Halos. Even when he has played, the production has not quite been there. He only has one season with an OPS greater than .900 — something he did each of the three seasons prior to 2020.
With the organization in transition, many wonder what will happen with Rendon moving forward. When asked about his role with the team, general manager Perry Minasian had this to say.
There is no doubt about it, you can look at it with wins and losses, we are a significantly better club with him on the field,” Minasian said. “Yes, I expect him to be our third baseman. I expect him to play every day. With that being said, with all players, you have to have contingency plans. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

It's safe to say fans have been frustrated with Rendon up to this point. He hasn't come close to meeting the standard that comes along with a $245 million contract.
However, that does not mean fans do not have hope for him. Everyone would love to see him live up to his billing and show just why Arte Moreno gave him that contract.
No doubt a lineup with Mickey Moniak, Brandon Drury, Mike Trout, and a healthy Rendon has the potential to be formidable. If Rendon can find his swing at the plate, there's no reason the Halos can't surprise some people next year, especially if they can bring back one Shohei Ohtani.
