After another poor season from the Los Angeles Angels, they decided to move on from former manager Phil Nevin. It wasn’t entirely his fault that the team performed badly, but he drew the short end of the stick.

Heading into 2024, the Angels feel very good about themselves, especially after hiring veteran Ron Washington to take over as their new manager. He brings an infectious energy to the table, and players tend to respond well to that.

With Washington now in the mix, the Angels can move forward with their offseason, focusing on improving the roster. Angels general manager Perry Minasian expressed that the team plans to compete in 2024 and that they will be aggressive this offseason.

"We're going to be aggressive this offseason," Minasian said, "and we're going to make this team better."

The Angels don’t have a ton of pieces to work with on the trade market, but they are able to spend in free agency. They haven’t been shy about doing it in the past, and with the new manager, you can expect it to happen again.

They are also waiting to see what happens with two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, but it is believed that he will indeed leave the organization. But until he signs elsewhere, the Angels remain committed to trying to retain him.

With or without Ohtani, the Angels need to find a way to get themselves back into contention. It has been far too long since they were even a winning team, and they don’t want more of the same next season.

They have young talent on the roster already that they can build around, and if they can bring in some quality free agents, maybe they can make a run toward the wild card. The AL West is extremely competitive, and it remains unlikely that they will compete for it. This is a critical offseason for the Halos, and one that they can’t afford to mess up.
