The Los Angeles Angels have reportedly made a contract offer to their own free agent, Gio Urshela. Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reported the news on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday, MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported Ushela was drawing interest from three teams — the New York Yankees, New York Mets and Miami Marlines.

On Wednesday, Hoch added the Angels to the mix, saying the Halos and Marlins have made "better offers" to the veteran infielder.

Urshela was en route to a superb season with the Angels in 2023 until he fractured his pelvis on June 15. Before his season abruptly ended, he batted .299 in 62 games.

Before his first season with the Angels, Urshela broke out with the Yankees. He was a Gold Glove contender on the left side of the infield and slashed .314/.355/.534 in his breakout 2019 season. He played first base for the first time in career last season with the Angels.

Since then, his power numbers have steadily declined and he only produced 11 extra-base hits with the Angels last season.

Offering Urshela is intriguing because the Angels already have corner infielders in Anthony Rendon (third) and Nolan Schanuel (first).

Perhaps, the AL West team is looking to add more depth and hoping Urshela can return to 2019 form with them instead of someone else. More third base depth behind the oft-injured Rendon wouldn't hurt, too.
