The Los Angeles Angels went into the 2023 season with new and high hopes. The front office revamped the team with smart off-season moves to do all they can to compete for a playoff spot.

The Halos looked good in spring training, and things looked promising for them. However, Angels infielder Jared Walsh was dealing with some psychological issues. Walsh was experiencing headaches and insomnia that forced him to be left off the Opening Day roster and has yet to suit up for the Halos.

Walsh's issues seem to be as severe as we thought. The 29-year-old spoke to Angels insider Sam Blum and told him things have been worse than we could all imagine.

“It’s been hell, to be completely honest with you,” Walsh said. “It’s been hell. Not knowing what’s going on. Not understanding what’s happening with my body. Being in the prime of my life. The prime of my career. And not being able to get answers, not being able to figure out why I can’t do basic tasks. It’s been pretty concerning for me.”

It's been sad and confusing to hear about Walsh's situation. The 2021 All-Star looked like he was coming into his own as a ball player; he had his best season in 2021 as he had a career-high 29 home runs, 98 RBIs, and career-highs in multiple categories.

Things haven't been going his way in 2023. His psychological issues got even worse, and Walsh's mother, Lisa, did all she could to help her son as she found him a facility in Utah that specializes in treating his symptoms.

The treatment has helped Jared, but he's not quite back to 100%. Nonetheless, he's battling to return to his usual self and get back to helping his team win some games. Walsh has been missed in the lineup, but at the same time, we want him to do all he can to get better.

Angels manager Phil Nevin spoke on the situation. He said that although it is a long road ahead, he reassured him that they're all in this together.

“This is uncharted waters with Walshy, I’m concerned about him still,” Angels manager Phil Nevin said. “Even when (he plays), it’s always going to be in the back of my mind. I worry about him. … It’s a scary deal. I think he’s got some clarity.

“However we get to the finish line, we’re all in this together.”

We wish Jared the best and great health.
