Angels Injury News: Catcher Logan O'Hoppe Nearing MiLB Rehab Assignment
One of the Angels bright young talents is close to being on his way back to the majors.
Logan O'Hoppe is getting close to going on a minor league rehab assignment that will hopefully lead to him seeing the field for the first time since April 20.
O'Hoppe made quite the impact with the Angels in his small sample size to begin the season.
Over 16 games with the Angels, he hit .283 and added his first 4 career home runs, definitely showing why he's ranked as the Angels' top prospect on mlb.com.
O'Hoppe tore his labrum in his shoulder on April 20, and subsequently had surgery to repair it on April 25.
An injury of that magnitude should take anywhere from four to six months to heal, which should've sidelined O'Hoppe until the end of September. But he showed that he's willing to put in the effort, and get better as soon as he can to help this team win.
During his absense, Matt Thaiss has been the primary catcher, and so far he's had a pretty decent season. He's hitting .230, which isn't too spectacular, but he's drawn 32 walks and his OBP is .344, so he's definitely been solid as a replacement.
Here's what Phil Nevin says is the plan for O'Hoppe:
I think the main thing to take away from that is that O'Hoppe isn't going to be on one of those quick, 5-day rehab assignments that are just a tune up, Nevin said that it's going to take some time for the 23-year-old catcher to get up to speed again.
"This is almost like another spring training for him because he's missed so much time."

Hopefully we'll see O'Hoppe back up in the majors before the season ends, but his health is the number one priority.
