Angels Injury News: LHP Jose Suarez Faces Setback in Recovery
Jose Suarez has been sidelined with a left shoulder strain since May 8. It's been a lost season for him, but he's trying to make it back to the team to help for a potential postseason push.
But during his rehab, Suarez felt some shoulder soreness, so the Angels have shut down his rehab just for precautions.
Over his first 6 starts, Suarez pitched to a 9.62 ERA over 24.1 innings. He might've been pitching through the injury to start the season, and if that's the case, hopefully his time on the IL will serve as a reset, and he'll be back around his 3.75 ERA that he had in 2021.
The Angels went out and got some help for the rotation in the meantime with the addition of Lucas Giolito, but the Angels are still trying to fight the injury bug, now that Griffin Canning will be spending some time on the IL.
Luckily, Angels manager Phil Nevin says that it shouldn't keep him out for much longer, but a setback is still a setback.
On the bright side, because of all the injuries, the Angels have had to look elsewhere to find starting pitching, and Chase Silseth seems to have found something as a starter. He has 14 strikeouts in his last two starts.
Even if his role is eventually out of the bullpen, it's still a good sign that for the time being, while the regular rotation pieces are getting healthy, the Halos can use him as a starter.
It would be great to see Suarez back in the rotation this season, but if he's not 100%, he should wait it out until he's back to full health.
