The Los Angeles Angels will likely be without their young rookie catcher Logan O'Hoppe for the rest of the season. O'Hoppe suffered a torn labrum, and the Halos will now look for what catcher at their disposal could fill his role.

The Halos called up 31-year-old catcher Chad Wallach and have backup catcher Matt Thaiss. Each has gotten some good run in the lineup and will likely alternate throughout the season; however, the two catchers in the big leagues could be looking at some competition sometime this season.

Angels general manager Perry Minasian spoke to Halos insider Rhett Bollinger and was asked about the possibility of bringing up their number three prospect Edgar Quero. Minasian didn't rule it out.

“I would consider everybody,” Minasian said. “If they’re in the organization, we’ll take a look, and we’ll consider what our best options are.”

Quero is a 20-year-old prospect playing for the Angels double-A affiliate Rocket City Trash Pandas. So far, he is slashing .385/.529/.538 with a 1.067 OPS, zero home runs, and 10 RBIs in 39 ABs.

The Halos signed the switch hitter in late February of 2021, and has demonstrated more power on the left side of the plate. He's killing it in double-A, and according to MLB.com, he's estimated to become a big leaguer in 2025.

The Angels did the unthinkable by bringing up their 2022 first-round draft pick Zach Neto to play a significant role; maybe they'll do the same with Edgar in due time.
