Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon has begun hitting off a tee, per Sam Blum of The Athletic. This is the first substantial update provided on his recovery from a bone bruise since he was injured July 4.

Rendon has yet to play in more than 60 games for the Angels in a single season in his four years with the franchise. In 43 games played in the 2023 season, Rendon was batting .236 with an OPS of .678, hitting just two home runs.

In his final season with the Washington Nationals in 2019, Rendon sported a 1.010 OPS and hit 34 home runs. He has yet to hit more than 10 in a single season since landing in Anaheim.

Just a few days ago, Anthony Rendon chose a creative way to avoid speaking to reporters on his lingering injury, telling them in Spanish that he did not speak English.

Rendon was initially placed on the injured list July 14 due to a bone bruise in his left shin. He will be eligible to return from the IL Saturday, but there is little evidence to prove that he will make it back before the end of the season.

There is little reason to believe the Angels would rush back their $245 million dollar man. Facing a 13-game deficit in the AL Wild Card, the Angels' hopes of making the playoffs have been crushed. With Rendon's contract expiring in 2026, the Angels will need him healthy come next season.
