The Angels dropped a bombshell of a roster move announcement on Friday ahead of their first game out of the All-Star break against the Houston Astros.

They made a slew of roster moves that included eight players moving around. The biggest name, though, is Anthony Rendon, who yet again was placed on the injured list this season, this time with a left shin contusion.

Rendon injured himself fouling a ball off his foot, and didn't sound confident in his postgame comments. He made it clear that an IL stint could be in his future, and now after the break, here we are.

For Rendon, it's just another instance of bad injury luck plaguing his Angel tenure. This is the third time he's gone on the IL this season, which is more than the amount of home runs he's hit (two).

Since 2021, in years two, three and four of his enormous seven-year, $245 million contract, Rendon has played in just 148 games for the Halos.

For reference, courtesy of Bill Shaikin of the LA Times, Rendon played in 146 games in 2019 with the Nationals.

Without Rendon, the Angels will have to continue to rely on their infield depth in Brandon Drury and the recently-acquired Eduardo Escobar and Mike Moustakas.

Rendon's IL stint is retroactive to July 11, so technically, if he's feeling better in a week, he'll be eligible to return.

Let's hope for the best with Rendon, as the Angels' high-paid third baseman has been unable to stay on the field during his three seasons in Anaheim.
