The Los Angeles Angels dropped their second of a four-game series to the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. The Halos struck first, but it wasn't enough, as the Orioles easily produced runs after the first inning. Halos starting pitcher Chase Silseth didn't hold up his end of the bargain in his first start of the season and got torched against a good Baltimore team.

The 22-year-old has pitched in five games this season but made his first start on Tuesday, and it didn't last long. The righty pitcher spoke to OC Register's Jeff Flecther after the game and said although the numbers don't show it, he felt good out there.

“I felt strong,” Silseth said. “I just didn’t make good enough pitches. The pitch count got up. I didn’t make good enough 0-2, 1-2 pitches and got deep into hitters.”

Silseth went 3.1 innings allowing six hits, four earned runs, one home run, one walk, and five strikeouts in 80 pitches. He last pitched on May 7th for only the same length and didn't have a strong outing.

The reason for Silseth's start was due to the Jose Suarez IL stint, and the Halos needed someone to fill that role. Through the 2023 season, Chase has gone 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA, 10 strikeouts, and a 1.46 WHIP in 11.2 innings and five games.

The 80 pitches on 3.1 innings is a bit concerning; however, that could be due to a long layoff he suffered prior to his start.

“I guess time only tells,” Silseth said. “All I’ve got is to focus on what I’ve got to do tomorrow and the next day after that or the next day after that. Whatever they decide and whatever the next time to pitch is it’ll happen on that day down the road.”

With proper time-off between pitch days, Silseth is confident he'll do a better job on his next time out.
